The robots are coming…
First, they came for the checkout assistants...
They say that human writers' days are numbered. Maybe they’re right. I mean, in the long run we’re all dead, right?
Realistically, Generative AI has torn up the rule book and replaced even recent predictions on the job market - who’d have thought we’d be sizing up AI’s potential for talk therapy, or that the relatively new and thriving field of data science would have its members running scared?
But what if we allow AI to show us who humans really are? To understand what humans are really good at?
Example 1: Most exams at the moment still test the ability to remember a load of stuff.
What if we focus on preparing our students for a world where critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving is the main form of currency.
Example 2: Many mid-career folks I know are frustrated at how their roles are narrowing, becoming more specialised as they progress. With AI, the more specialised a job spec, the more at risk it becomes.
What if we encourage a rounder set of skills in our leaders from the start? What if we reward lateral moves as well as just vertical ones?
Example 3: Being able to bounce back and learn from short term setbacks can help us all grow in the long term - both personally and as a society. And professionally - from creative to tech to marketing - if we test fast, we know fast. GenAI tools mean we can explore more options at speed, and with less risk.
What if we encourage people to get comfortable with a failure as a positive outcome - a teachable moment - in work and in life.
And really, what is more human than owning how we’re all, well, just a little fallible. 😊
